It is September and close to the end of another year for me.  And what an incredible year it has been…

I have traveled to far flung places.
Seen, heard and felt things that will have forever changed me.

I have lived fully.  The meaning, the moments and the memories.

I have felt deeply.  The wonder, the awe, the overwhelming passion for love and for life

I have loved completely.  With my heart and with my soul.

I have enjoyed simply.  With my toes in the water, my sights set on sunrise and sunset.

Another year marker will soon be here.  If change helps us to grow, then I am open to all the growth that my next year on this earth has in store for me.

I took this picture at the end of a very long day of walking – and it is completely untouched.  No filters, no improvements – just nature doing what it does best.

August is my month for self-indulgence.  The time that I take for myself to do one of the things that I have grown to love the most.
So far this month I have enjoyed time walking with lovely people in the Peak District, the Lake District, across the South Downs, on Brownsea Island, around the Devil’s Punch Bowl and down some of the LipChis way.

I have plans to walk some of Offa’s Dyke in a couple of weeks – and that leaves me with some empty space on my calendar next week!

So…   Where shall I go for my next walking adventure?

As August starts to get into full swing, I am still longing for the absent sunshine.

Memories of my short break to Porto a while ago fill my head as I crave the sun on my skin.

I took this picture on the way back to our hotel at sunset, after a full day spent walking, talking, enjoying sun, sea and sangria, exploring the world around us and our love for each other.

The tide was out as we took the long way back to our hotel.  The beautiful bridge that spans the river was ahead of us, the beach behind us and we strolled along the river.  We were looking forward to another walk through the beautiful Crystal Palace Gardens before nightfall finally came.

Looking at this picture I remember the moment so clearly.  I should take more pictures…

Skin needs touch to be.
Fingers tracing down the spine,
Leaves a fire wake

As the kiss of sun
touches skin winter tired
Instantly revives

Warm hands dipped in oil
Kneading away knots, tension
Contentment descends

The sting of nettle
The discomfort and itch
Irritates yet wakes

A lovers caress
Tender, passionate, urgent
Arouses, ignites

Skin needs touch to be
Abundant, sensitive, real
Lavished and honest.

I started the year scrambling over rocks, squelching in mud, plodging in the freezing sea and walking for days in the beautiful English countryside… Fur-lined, water proof boots and a gazillion layers of snuggly purpleness to keep me warm and dry.

A few weeks ago I climbed Snowdon with my daughter on the hottest day of the year so far.  My big, sensible purple walking boots were firmly attached to the back of my rucksack – and replaced with nice, comfortable flip flops!  Morton’s Neuroma makes it less and less easy to wear my boots, but they’re always there ready.

August is my adventure month!  My time.  A chance to get some serious walking miles under my boots.  A chance to connect, reflect, regenerate, recoup and renew.

But every day throughout the year I try to take a walk somewhere.  Just a few miles.  Just enough to remind me of what is important to me.  Fresh air, exercise, the sights, sounds and joys of nature around us and love, in all it’s guises.

But walking boots are not my only boots.

This weekend was a Blues BootCamp weekend.  A chance to swap the walking boots and flip flops for my dancing boots and shoes.  A whole weekend of teaching, encouraging and nurturing the love of Modern Blues dancing with a fabulous group of receptive and friendly dancers.

I love my boots.  ALL of my boots!

I have been doing an awful lot of walking recently.  And I have plans to do a whole heap more during the month of August.

Over the course of the month I shall be walking in the Peak District, the Lake District, the South East Coastal Path and Offa’s Dyke on the English/Welsh border.

I plan to see waterfalls and gorges…

To climb mountains and cross streams…

To enjoy nature and wildlife…

To marvel at the vastness of the sea and the wonders of the great outdoors…

To explore inland, coastland and headlands…

To let my mind roam free, my eyes to feast and my spirit to soar in freedom…

And all the while I shall be on the lookout for purple.

Seek and nature will provide!

Purple makes me happy.

It’s that simple.

People who understand these things in more scientific ways would say that purple physically uplifts us, calms our minds and nerves, offers us a sense of spirituality, and encourages our creativity.

And it certainly seems to have those kind of effects on me.  But in general terms, purple makes me happy.

It would seem that my little purple garden is kinda cool too…

According to experts –

Purple is considered a cool color in landscape design. Its appearance has a calming effect in a garden. Purple plants visually recede in a garden, helping to make a small space feel larger.

Gotta love the purple!
