I have a date on Thursday!

With Betty and Martin.

We’re meeting for afternoon wine.

And what a damn fine idea that is!  According to Martin, we could meet for coffee, but why would we?  When there is so much fine wine to enjoy… We might all look back with longing upon the lost innocence of our youth, but the wisdom of age certainly has its compensations.

Betty and Martin blew me away today.

A moment of such sweet simplicity but one which landed like a punch to the soul.

Betty told me that the life she has lived is a life she has loved.  Very simple.  Betty has loved her life.

She loves Martin, and always has.  Martin chimes in at that point with a smile and a wink, ‘Well why wouldn’t she..?’ He prides himself on his supreme modesty.  Betty laughs an open and honest laugh and then looks at me as if to say, ‘You see… he’s right!  Why wouldn’t I!’

Betty loved her job high in the skies working for British Airways.  She has children and she loves them, their partners and the grandchildren they have blessed her with. She loves where she lives.  She loves who she is.  She loves the things they do together.  She loves the changing of the seasons.  She loves going out for lunch.  She loves nice wine.  She loves.  He smiles.  It’s clear to see that he loves too.

Martin fills in some blanks.  We’ve had our share of the ups and downs of life.  Financial worries. Health worries.  Family worries.  But we remind ourselves every day how lucky we are.  We chose to love our lives.

It’s brutal in its simplicity, really.

So now I have a new ambition.  When the Circle of Life turns, as it will, I want to be able to sit down, someday, somewhere and take a younger soul under my wing and say, ‘I have loved my life’

And I shall continue to take all the required steps in all the right directions to be able to do so.

It is September and close to the end of another year for me.  And what an incredible year it has been…

I have traveled to far flung places.
Seen, heard and felt things that will have forever changed me.

I have lived fully.  The meaning, the moments and the memories.

I have felt deeply.  The wonder, the awe, the overwhelming passion for love and for life

I have loved completely.  With my heart and with my soul.

I have enjoyed simply.  With my toes in the water, my sights set on sunrise and sunset.

Another year marker will soon be here.  If change helps us to grow, then I am open to all the growth that my next year on this earth has in store for me.

Day 312 - And then...

Having posted so many beautiful examples of the vast array of delicious purpleness there is in the world, it was somewhat inevitable that eventually it would come to this…

No. Just no. No, no, no, no, no!

Day 296 - Be Eccentric.

If purple is considered to be a mark of eccentricity, then I love being eccentric. Usually.

Standing in a queue I had my ipod in my hand and my earphones in place when I heard two people behind me saying…

‘Wow – she must really like purple!’
‘Yeah, look, she even has purple in her hair…’
‘And a purple bag…’
‘Purple jacket, purple top and even purple shoes!’
‘I bet she takes out a purple purse when she pays…’

At which point I turned and said – you do know I can hear you, right?

And it was then I realised that I had forgotten to turn my music on…

Day 290 - It'll cost ya!

In town with my daughter and taking the zig zag route trying to avoid the onslaught of street sellers and charity collectors.

In the beautiful sunshine was a guy waving a big white paper napkin around and shouting, ‘Big Tissue… Get your Big Tissue! Free Big Tissue… All it will cost you is a smile…’

His attitude and enthusiasm totally changed my day… I gave him his smile, and kept one for myself.

Big Tissue anyone?

Day 272 - Balloon Related Incidents.

This picture reminded me of a purple balloon related incident last year, and made me smile.

When I think about it, balloons have been involved in a few incidents that have made me smile.
